Tailored for practitioners, legislators, and policymakers, this policy brief aims to advocate for changes in national regulations to ensure gender equality in politics and leadership positions. It also provides insights into the challenges, opportunities, and strategies for women's political empowerment, benefiting civil society groups and advancing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda.

Summary
Our 2021, 'Women Leadership: Operational Opportunities and Challenges' policy brief is based on women's talking circles conducted by Life & Peace Institute (LPI); in the lead-up to the commemoration of the March 8, 2021, International Women’s Day (IWD); to highlight the inequitable gendered nature of political participation and leadership ahead of Kenya’s general elections in 2022. Drawing evidence from women's talking circles in six informal settlements in Kenya namely, Kangemi, Kayole, Kibera, Korogocho, Majengo, and Mathare. It reveals obstacles women face in political participation, identifies opportunities available in political spaces, and explores ways for women to utilise these opportunities towards greater inclusion and representation.
