Call for Applications! Capacity Building Training on The African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP)

The Life & Peace Institute's Horn of Africa Regional Programme (HARP), the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) and Institute for Justice and Reconciliation(IJR) are pleased to announce its call for applications for a capacity building training on the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP).

Civil society actors have an essential role in conflict and post-conflict situations. Despite political, social and funding challenges, civil society organizations have played a crucial role in driving Transitional Justice, Reconciliation (TJR) and Dialogue processes on the continent. The African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP) also emphasizes the critical role of non-state actors and civil society organizations as key partners in promoting TJR efforts at various levels. As representatives of numerous community groups, civil society actors bring the broad participation and expertise needed to ensure the effective design and implementation of TJR policies/initiatives. However, to fully take on these responsibilities and play a meaningful role in ensuring sustainable peace and human security in their respective contexts, their capacities must be built up and strengthened.

Cognizant of this and also responding to the changing regional landscape in the Horn of Africa (HoA) region and aiming to add value to the structural prevention agenda of the African Union (AU), the Life and Peace Institute (LPI), the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) and Institute for Justice and Reconciliation( IJR) are jointly launching a capacity building training on the AUTJP, targeting national and sub-national CSOs engaged in Transitional Justice, Reconciliation, and Dialogue initiatives.

The overall goal of capacity-building training is to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders in the HoA region to engage with and sufficiently use the AUTJP in developing and implementing transitional justice, peacebuilding, and reconciliation mechanisms in their respective countries. The training will bring together national and sub-national practitioners from the IGAD region, with experience working with communities on issues related to TJR, peacebuilding, dialogue, and social cohesion.
