Today, April 16, 2018, marks the first day of a five-day training bringing together 52 representatives of civil society organisations from the borderlands of Moyale, Kenya; Moyale, Ethiopia; Busia, Uganda; Busia, Kenya; and Kassala, Sudan to enhance their capacity on Organisational Development and Advocacy. The European Commission-funded Civil Society Engagement to Transform Borderlands in Africa Project, which LPI is implementing in cooperation with InterAfrica Group (IAG), Eastern Africa Subregional Support Initiative for the Advancement of Women (EASSI), and Act! Kenya, aims to enhance the capacity of borderland CSOs to engage in policy advocacy at the regional and continental levels to improve policies that affect borderland communities.

The objectives of the workshop are:
• To empower partner CSOs with knowledge to improve their organisational structures and management systems so that they can effectively implement their activities
• To strengthen the resource mobilisation capacity of the CSOs and equip them with skills to develop strategies on sustainability
• To equip partner CSOs with skills to participate and engage in policy processes using proven and diverse policy engagement strategies
• To help prepare a number of CSOs to meet the eligibility criteria for ECOSOCC membership
